Houses on stilts.

The fake beach. (That smell? Chlorine, not salt.)

People thinking they are cold. It's so cute to see people wearing scarves and coats when the temperature is not significantly different from a NZ summer. My favourite cafe at the university here even provides blankets for people to wrap themselves up in if they want to sit outside with their morning coffee.

Hmm, the house has screens over the balcony openings...they're for keeping birds out, are they? Or does Brisbane have REALLY big mosquitoes?
ReplyDeleteI didn't see any signs of giant insects while I was there -- despite rumours that the cockroaches are the size of birds. Maybe the screens are for cockroaches? But I think the insects must hibernate or die off over the "winter".
ReplyDeletethose screens look like they're keeping people out, actually. Some houses have decorative wooden lattice, but I don't think it's meant to have any function.
ReplyDeleteYes, I loved the lattice work on so many of the houses. Must be a pain to keep clean, though.
