More fun than a table full of dissertations

Nah, just kidding. What's more fun than that? Nothing, right? Except for never having to write a dissertation again. EVER.

I just picked these up from the printers and am about to drop off the library copies to the research office.

You may call me Dr. StyleyGeek.

Dang, you're dissertation is BIG! What's the page count on that thing there? I mean .. I know we mathies don't have anything on the humanities, but .... for comparison, check mine out.

  19. The page count is 330. I put it next to Geekman's on the shelf, and I WIN. His is 124 pages, and double sided.

We are expected to write between 80,000 and 100,000 words. Mine was around 90,000. One guy in our dept last year submitted one twice as big as mine (two volumes!). He got around the word limit by putting half of it in appendices.

Ianqui: it's Dr. S. Geek (according to the words on the spine of the dissertation :) ).

And Geeka: yes. Officially I was allowed to use the title ever since my "letter of approval" came through from the university, which was a few weeks back. So my grant application I put in recently was signed Dr. StyleyGeek. It felt very weird.

  20. Hooray Dr. Stylegeek! It really does sink in more after the thesis is bound, isn't it? (I sure didn't feel like I had my MA until after that point.)

  21. Dangit! You -both- beat me. Mine is 96 pages. Including things like the 17 pages of headmatter formalia (with something like 4-5 spread-controlling blank pages), and 6 pages of source code listing in the appendix.
