I think it's meant to be a compliment

One of the other students at the summer school just told me that if I "ditched the academic look", I'd look like Cameron Diaz.

Is that a good thing?

What, exactly, is the "academic look"? I'd consider it to be jeans and t-shirt, but that's probably because I hang out in the physics department (and don't think I've forgiven you for saying that physicists are the worst dressed people you know!).

Regarding Cameron Diaz... I'm not sure. I'll spend today downloading pictures of her and making comparisons :)

You are much sexier than Cameron Diaz, IMHO. ;-)

I think she means I am dressed too formally to be attractive (but no more formally than everyone else here -- no jeans or t-shirts in sight!)

Oh, and no downloading pictures of other women while I'm away! (Is that what I'm supposed to say?)

Grace -- you have just made it into my list of favourite people :) (Except that you were probably there to start with, actually. You've just moved UP my list of favourite people, then.)

I don't know what you look like - except I know you have way cooler hair. I think Diaz is pretty cute - of the celebrities to be compared to, she's a goodie. I know plenty of women who claim to have "girl crushes" on her.

That's okay, then, shrinky. I'm such a dork that I never know what people think of any given celebrity.
