It is still January, right?

Our local shop has put up their Easter egg display already.

I once woke up, hung over, on new years day, popped the tv on, and was greated by an easter egg advert as the first thing I saw. Grrr...

I'm sure that would be happening here too, except all the stores have Valentine's Day stuff out instead. The Easter stuff will come out the day after Valentine's Day. (Is Valentine's Day not a big thing down there?). In their defense, Easter is a little earlier than usual this year, although I'm sure that doesn't really have anything to do with it.

Easter is March 30. It makes me wonder how it will affect candy sales for Valentine's Day because some are observing Lent. Not a problem here- if I give up anything it's my trashy tabloids!

Australia doesn't really do Valentine's Day. Some of the shops will have heart-shaped chocolates for sale closer to the date, and roses become expensive, but that's pretty much it. There aren't big displays in most shops, and often the day passes without me noticing that it is Valentine's Day - unless I see someone carrying a bunch of flowers and wonder why.

I've seen heaps of Easter stuff in shops, and Valentine's displays at newsagents, who are obviously hoping that someone is organised enough to be buying their loved one a card several weeks in advance.
