It just arrived today. We went for the Macbook Pro in the end, thanks partly to people's recommendations, and partly to Geekman's inability to refuse extra power and enormous screenage. He *claims* he needs to be able to run simulations on it, in the event that—oh, I don't know—his other three computers are out to lunch.
Anyway, I likes it cos it's pretty. And if you'll excuse me, I'm off to wave at my own reflection against a background of tropical fish.

Pretty!
Welcome to the computer family, Ms. Powerbook!
Is she new or used?? They don't sell new Powerbooks in the US anymore, it is all the new Macbooks... sigh. I love my 12-inch PowerBook, but they no longer sell them here, so I'm hoping she lasts forever!
Ooooh! Congratulations! She's beautiful! :D
Enjoy, and welcome to the Mac family!
Inside - It's actually a MacBook Pro (note the iSight), I think it was just a little misspeak.
I'm meant MacBook Pro. Damn. Member of the Mac family for five minutes, and already I embarrass myself.
oooo nice :)
/me drools
something to check though: is it running OSX 10.5? because that just came out. They should let you upgrade to it for free methinks if it isn't
(to check go to apple in top left corner: about this mac) :)
have fun!
/me drools more
I'll be ordering mine shortly, since my laptop DIED today!
the scientist - 10.4 was preinstalled, but it came with a 10.5 upgrade DVD. So it's now running Leopard.
Incidentally, does anyone know if there's a Leopard version of OpenOffice available?
On the OO.org download site they only have versions available for OSX up to Tiger. But presumably the Tiger version should still work, right?
Geekman -- Tom would know the answer to that question.
Which screen size did you go for - 15" or 17"?
My old Mac just turned green.
(But I love the swivel screen. If they still made those swivel screens I'd be tempted to upgrade a lot sooner . . .)
I highly suggest you back it up on a very regular basis. Just speaking from experience, as 3 of the Macs in the lab crashed within the past month.
While my labmates are crying, I secretly snicker in joy with my PC which has yet to crash or lose one piece of data.
Oh, she's gorgeous! I just bought my first laptop last night!!! I can relate to your excitement...and I'll even admit this: I brought it to work with me today, even though there won't be any opportunity for me to use it. I'm not fumbling towards geekdom, I'm sprinting towards it :)
very kewl!
My MBP sends Hullo! to yours!
Talk to me! (You know you want to!)
