This is the way the thesis ends

(Not with a bang but a drinking.)

I think I kind of finished my dissertation. How weird is that? (See, I'm practising to be Australian).

I have to cut 8000 words, and make a few changes to the formatting, and there's a few extra things I could change if I'm enough of a perfectionist to care, but right now the bottle and a half of red wine that a friend and I just shared in celebration says don't bother.

I could hand it in as it is and I think it would be good enough.

How bizarre.

(PS: Flight of the Conchords is extra funny when you're durnk.)

Congratulations!!!

This is the time to start training everybody to call you *Dr Styley*... and think about what to wear at your defence (or whatever ritual you have in your hemisphere).

Carine, the best thing about it is, we don't have a defence. Woohoo!

Twirly, I want to see your dance!

EA, I still don't believe in graduation. There's a long way to go before then, anyway. First I have to hand in an "intention to submit" form, with my official submission date, that has to be at least two months from the day I had it in (so maybe should have done that already).

Then I have to hand the thesis to my committee, who read it and give me feedback.

Then I make the revisions they require and submit it for realz.

Then my external examiners have up to a year to read it and submit their readers' reports.

Then I have to make any revisions they suggest.

Then I can graduate. Best case scenario, next July.

So I won't be Doctor Geek for a long time yet.

Holy cow! That's terrific. Weird how it just sneaks up on you like that. I know I'll get drunk when I finish mine too. Hope the hangover isn't too bad...

No defence. Blah, young people are getting soft these days. In my day they grilled me for five hours. Over a slow charcoal fire!!!! and after gravel for breakfast.

Congratulations!

What are you going to do with all the TIME you'll suddenly have?

StyleyGeek said...

Time? What's that?

I figure first I'll proofread the thesis a bit, then I'll write some lectures, then I might jump headfirst into teaching all the classes I have lined up to start next week.

*gulp*
