There's a snuffly vacuum cleaner on my balcony*

The birdseed and apples I've been putting out on the balcony to attract rosellas have had a wider appeal than I expected.

* And eww! It's getting to the point where I am going to have to shut the door between me and it because man, possums are whiffy.

If there is a snuffly vacuum cleaner on your balcony, how come it's not in the pictures or is it just to get people's attention?

is that a possum?? it's cute! the possums in my yard are fleshy and creepy.

Yep, it's a possum. And it was seriously hoovering up that birdseed.

Now I have a bigger problem: it appears to have scent-marked my balcony for future reference. Anyone know how to get rid of possum pong?

That possum is really cute compared to the dead possum I saw in the back of a pick-up truck here in Red State.

As for the possum scent... you could try the stuff that takes out cat urine smells... it might work. I'd also do some research as to how to discourage more possums... maybe they are sensitive to mothballs or something.

That type of possum is a lot cuter than American possums. American possums look like giant rats, or ROUSes (see Princess Bride.)

What Breena said. U.S. possums are kind of icky, though the babies are very, very cute. Adults, though: like giant rats with huge, sharp teeth.
